What is a Prosthodontist?
Dr. Alan B. Sheiner is a Board-Certified Prosthodontist

A prosthodontist has completed advanced education and intensive training beyond the standard norms of the dental degree. It is one of nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. Less than 2% of practicing dentists in the US are prosthodontists; dental specialists for the restoration and replacement of teeth. Dr. Sheiner is also fellowship trained and experienced in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, a subspecialty that involves rehabilitation of patients with defects or disabilities present at birth or acquired due to trauma or disease.
While many general dentists can provide basic restorative care, prosthodontists bring a different level of education, skill, and perspective – especially significant with complex situations. If you think of a prosthodontist as a plastic surgeon – where a family practitioner might be able to treat a small defect, most people would seek the care of a plastic surgery specialist to take advantage of the difference in training and skill level.
Board Certified means that in addition to completing the program requirements to be held out as specialists in their field, Board Certified Prosthodontists have also passed very rigorous multi part written, oral and clinical examinations assessing their requisite knowledge and skill to provide high quality patient care.
